Bundeena Bloom began with the landscape around us.
Not with a trend forecast or a particular season, but with the colours, textures and small details that appear every day along the coast south of Sydney.
Native flowers against dusty green bushland. Brilliant blue water glimpsed through the trees. Cockatoos overhead. Sand underfoot. The unexpected flashes of colour that seem to appear everywhere once you start looking for them.
These became the starting point for Bundeena Bloom.
Designing from what surrounds us
Our studio sits beside the Royal National Park, where the bush meets the water at Bundeena.
It's difficult not to be influenced by it.
A walk can become a colour palette. A bird can become an illustration. The shape of a flower, a faded beach towel or the colours of the water can quietly find their way into something we're working on.
We don't want to reproduce nature literally.
We're more interested in capturing how it feels.
Bright. Free. Slightly imperfect. Full of life.
Made for little adventurers
Bundeena Bloom was designed for children who aren't particularly interested in keeping their clothes pristine.
Children who collect shells, climb rocks, chase birds, dig enormous holes in the sand and invariably come home carrying something they found along the way.
There's something wonderfully Australian about that kind of childhood.
The collection brings that feeling into colour, illustration and easy pieces made to become part of those adventures.
Because children's clothes should be beautiful.
But they should also be lived in.
Colour tells a story
Colour has always been central to DK+L Originals.
Australia gives us an extraordinary palette to work with, and it extends far beyond the familiar greens and browns of the bush.
There are powder blues, brilliant ocean blues, soft sand, eucalyptus, wildflower pinks and purples, cockatoo yellows and the deep greens that appear after rain.
Bundeena Bloom takes those colours and lets them play together.
The result feels unmistakably connected to where it began — without needing to explain itself.
From Bundeena to Sydney
Eventually, the collection makes the same journey we do.
From the quiet of Bundeena to our store in The Rocks, where it becomes part of a very different landscape of sandstone streets, Sydney Harbour and city life.
And then it begins another journey.
Some pieces stay in Sydney. Others leave in suitcases for homes around Australia and across the world.
We love that thought.
Something imagined beside the Royal National Park can eventually become part of someone else's childhood thousands of kilometres away.
That is Bundeena Bloom.
